glock testing

Glock Testing - The GLOCK-proposed pistol was a finalist in the US Army's XM17 Modular Handgun System competition, and now it's rumored that it could soon hit the civilian market.

The team had the opportunity to seriously test the gun. We enjoyed it and here is the exclusive story - the world premiere including the first video.

Let's start at the end: the 9mm GLOCK 19 MHS is a great gun. It couldn't be otherwise, as this gun was selected as a finalist in the XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition, the US military's attempt to replace the decades-old Beretta M9 (which we've already covered).

In the end, another pistol, the SIG Sauer P320, was declared the winner. But this decision was contentious and somewhat controversial, so when GLOCK invited us as the first media worldwide to its headquarters in Deutsch-Wagram / Austria to test the G19 MHS, we were both excited and intrigued.

The handling of the GLOCK 19 MHS is extremely intuitive for anyone who has fired a GLOCK pistol before.

Our first contact with the new pistol was very positive: the GLOCK G19 MHS is aesthetically pleasing and provides a "feeling of familiarity" to anyone who has handled a GLOCK pistol before.

But the more we looked at it, the more we distinguished it from any other GLOCK pistol. Starting with the color, of course. Over the years, GLOCK has offered desert brown, dull olive, battle green (BFG), flat dark earth (FDE), and gray frames. But this is the first time that a factory GLOCK has a colored slide. And the slide of the GLOCK 19 MHS has something enchanting, even "sexy", with its soft, almost golden hues. However, the actual finishing process used on the slide is currently an industry secret.

The GLOCK 19 MHS appears to combine the frame of the full-sized G17 with the slide of the more compact G19. But that's not entirely true: the grip is the same height as the G17, but the dust cover is, of course, shorter.

The grip of the GLOCK 19 MHS 9mm pistol is identical to the GLOCK 17 Gen4, of course without the finger grooves. A magazine of 19 rounds was inserted. picture:

Line height is 151 mm (5.94 in) and the front of the slide is also beveled to facilitate holstering. The barrel is 102 mm (4" in.) long, and the muzzle has a deeper crown recess to protect the rifling.

Then there's the (un)famous handheld safety device. Actually, that's not news either. Previously, GLOCK produced a variant with an external manual safety system, the G17S, for some security forces around the world, and both the Austrian and British military tested manual safety variants of the GLOCK 17. But these models were made in very small numbers and are now collectors' items.

Additionally, GLOCK has always argued—for some reason—that adding a manual safety to the three independent automatic safeties already integrated into their products is a useless complication for pistols specifically designed to fire immediately without the need to manipulate buttons.

In any case, an external manual safety on the thumb was a specific requirement in the MHS competition, so here it is: an ambidextrous system consisting of a paddle on the left and a lever on the right, operated only with the cocked firing pin.

Other notable details are grips with a smooth foregrip without finger grooves, a classic military rope ring at the bottom of the grip, and an extended magwell with a flange that extends over the front of the magazine base plate. The frame can be easily adjusted to the individual shooter's hand thanks to GLOCK's modular back system, which includes a set of four additional straps of different sizes.

All controls on the GLOCK 19 MHS are replicated on the right side: manual safety and grip open; The magazine release is easy to reverse.

In addition, the G19 MHS surprisingly lacks the third cross pin introduced by GLOCK's "Gen 2" for better support and distribution of energy transferred to the polymer frame of the locking block. The current design of the locking block and its location in the frame do not require this.

The gun is supplied with three coyote tan double-layer magazines, one "standard" and two "extended", with a capacity of 17 and 19 rounds, respectively. In addition to the color, the supplied GLOCK 17 magazines. With the standard magazine loaded, the G19 HMS weighs 908 g (32 oz.).

Review: Glock G34 Gen 5 Mos

After inspecting the gun, we casually moved on to test firing the G19 MHS at GLOCK's in-house shooting range. There were other good surprises for us. We were able to test the gun not only with the standard factory GECO 9mm 124gr FMJ ammunition, but also with the authentic SP (Special Purpose) military load. We are not authorized to disclose any information about the manufacturer, construction, or specifications of this classified ammo, other than that it is indeed very powerful (+P+ ammo, about 20% more powerful than the bullet load in mil spec.) and very accurate, as confirmed by our groups.

Our gun performed extremely well with both loads. Not only is the gun very accurate, but the trigger is extremely consistent and smooth, breaking with an almost "rollover" feel and no excessive travel. The reset is sharp and very short. Credit for this goes to a new trigger pack that integrates a manual safety, but also uses a different spring type than the standard GLOCK 17 and 19 pistols. The manufacturer claimed a trigger travel of 12.5 mm (0.49 in).

GLOCK 19 MHS, 5 rounds group shot at 15m, with GECO 9mm 124gr FMJ ammunition, each square is 1cm wide.

GLOCK 19 MHS, group of 5 rounds, fired at 25m with the gun in a mechanical lock, using classified ammunition 9mm "SP" (special purpose), each square is 1cm wide.

Thanks to the perfect angle and texture, the grip is solid and comfortable even without finger grooves - in fact, many shooters claim it's even better without them. With both standard GECO and powerful special ammunition, recoil and muzzle spin are easy to control. As a result, we were able to print excellent and quite rewarding groups with the pistol out to 25 meters (27 yds), right from the start. We have not been able to find any faults in the operation and cycle of the GLOCK MHS pistol. The gun worked flawlessly. Used boxes are positively ejected, always landing in the same area one meter/yard to the right and slightly behind the shooter.

Glock Testing

As mentioned in the first line of this article, the G19 MHS is definitely a great gun, in our opinion one of the best GLOCKs ever made. But after being defeated on cost grounds in a prestigious US military arms competition, what will become of it? Will it remain a simple exercise with style? Well, maybe not.

Glock 46: The First Rotating Barrel Glock Under Test

After repeatedly stating in the past that the G19 MHS would not be offered to the public, there are now rumors that GLOCK may change its mind.

There is no official confirmation yet, but this is more than pure speculation. The same rumors also point out that the "civilian" G19 MHS would not have an additional manual safety feature.

This clarification, so true to GLOCK's philosophy, indirectly confirms that GLOCK officials are seriously considering that the civilian market could be a good option. We must emphasize the fact that GLOCK has also developed a .40 caliber version for the Modular Handgun System competition, the G23 HMS.

If not with the military, the GLOCK G19 MHS could be a real winner with civilians. It would be a well-deserved revenge.

Special thanks to the GLOCK management for inviting our team to their headquarters in Austria and allowing us to collect this valuable and exclusive information in person. There are some more details that we will prepare for you in the next few days. We have already introduced our readers to the GLOCK 19X, a pistol developed from the US military's XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition model. We finally made it...

Glock Testing

For friends, the GLOCK 19X is nothing new. Last year we started with what was the beginning of all things, the GLOCK 19 MHS, that is. a pistol that the Austrian manufacturer introduced in the US Army's XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition and was selected as a finalist.
